Compatible Ink and Toner- The Reality of The Switch From OEM

About 3 quarts of oil go into the standard laser toner cartridge

Oil
We all have our hands in it

With the current climate here in California in regards to our financial stability we try and balance our ecological responsibilty. With the office supply industry this resulted in an increase in demand for "green products". In fact the State of California is a big advocate of the green movement. They have mandates for the amount of recycle product they purchase. Sadly, few purchasers take advantage of the value compatible toner cartridges offer.

Most of the effort goes into the paper side of the supplies. The unfortunate realization is that the costs are not as competetive and in fact more expensive in some cases. Few people are willing to make the jump to compatibles because there has been a load of negative campaigning against them. Many times I would learn thet the resistance is coming from a tech that was told not to use compatibles in the machine. They are lead to believe that the after market cartridge causaed the issue. This sometimes results in a company being misinformed into believing that they are voiding a warranty. This is not legal. The use of a compatible toner cartridge cannot void the warranty. Federal law protects the consumer on this with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

So what to do? Well, lucky for you I have some information you can use. Here are some things to consider when looking at compatible toner cartridges.

  1. What is the project? This is something that never really gets considred. In most typical office situations the paper you are printed will be filed, used in reporting then filed, or read and tossed in the trash.
  2. How old is the machine? The newer the machine the younger the compatible tech is. Also, availabilty could be an issue as well.
  3. Warranty info. Does the company you work with stand behind their cartridge?

If you plan it out right and your company has that kind of volume just making the swith on a single printer model can save thousands per year.In fact savings of up to 40% or more can be realized. You should really explore the price ranges out there and work with the people you trust. Believe me they will want to work with you on this because their is a nice profit margin.

As always, dont be afraid to ask. Remember you are the customer!
